Control to chaos is a slippery slope characterized by the surface tension of water and web. Control is keeping my head above water, chaos is sinking below the surface. Control is a carefully designed web, chaos is getting caught in the strings. The sensation of losing control is one that brings great fear and anxiety; the moment my head goes underwater; the moment I realize I cannot break free. Panic. It is easy to get stuck when I am deafened by the sound of my heart pounding. But this panic is not the final destination, it is the trial of water and web which must be passed through. Embracing chaos. The ability to swim underwater in any direction mindless to gravity; or admiring the intricate architecture of a web glistening. Chaos demands trust, trust that the waves will not take me if it is not my time, trust that the spider will consume me if it is. Trust in the Universe that all events unfold as opportunities for introspection, collaboration and evolution. The Universe is my Collaborator.
This bronze ring has been treated with a green patina, resembling the lost bronze statues at the bottom of the sea, collecting barnacles – and breaking fishing nets. The polyester embroidery thread is laced together with dreams of spiders webs – ready to catch ideas and harness chaos.
