“Nature” is my Backyard

Date: Spring 2023
Materials: paper, fireworks,  graphite, synthetic fiber, sewing
Dimensions: 4 ft tall x 3 ft wide x 6 in deep

This body of work stems from an intentional act of noticing, acknowledging, and engaging with "nature" as it exists in the immediate environment. It invites the viewer to reconsider their perception of the natural world, encouraging a renewed awareness of the ecosystems that thrive around us despite human intervention.

Focused on a specific location—39°40'51" N, 104°53'12" W—on April 24, 2023, this work captures a moment in time where I bore witness to the subtle vitality of life around me. The plants that struggle to root in this arid landscape, the insects that flourish against all odds, these are not simply elements of an untouched wilderness. They are part of a complex, ever-changing environment where human influence is both evident and inextricable.
